Nikos Lavranos Joins Global Investment Protection As Head Of Legal Affairs

Zürich, 11 September 2014 – Global Investment Protection AG (GIP) has been joined by Nikos Lavranos as its Head of Legal Affairs. The highly experienced negotiator and policy advisor on Bilateral Investment Treaties (BITs) and expert in European law and public international law will provide a full range of necessary legal expertise to the company‘s clients. GIP provides unique solutions ensuring the strongest possible investment protection in the light of spreading governmental measures leading towards asset expropriation in Europe.

Nikos Lavranos has an outstanding track record in the field of investment protection. Until August 2014 he was the Senior Trade Policy Advisor responsible for Bilateral Investment Treaties (BITs) and investment issues in the Dutch Foreign Ministry and previously the Ministry of Economic Affairs. In this capacity he was the Chief Negotiator for the Netherlands and Representative of the Netherlands in the Trade Policy Committee (TPC) of the EU and in the Investment Committee (IC) of the OECD.

Recently, Nikos has also been appointed Secretary-General of the European Federation for Investment Law and Arbitration (EFILA) established in Brussels. Over the past years he has advised many investors on investment law and arbitration issues.

Nikos Lavranos has an academic background as Senior Researcher and Assistant Professor (International law & European law) at the University of Amsterdam, Faculty of Law. He received his PhD in Law and LL.M. from Maastricht University and obtained a Law degree from J.W. Goethe University in Frankfurt (1st State exam). He is regularly invited as keynote speaker and participant in conference panels worldwide. Nikos is multilingual and can advise in English, Dutch and German.
